Secret Chumming Technique
In this video, I catch a trout in less than 60 seconds after demonstrating how to chum with the right chum.
I’m using a Trout Ninja Killer Rig with Trout Ninja “CHROME” Floating bait.
Pay close attention to the secret weapon. Leave me your questions and comments. ~ TN ~
William, Thanks for your question. The larger pellets – half inch is almost 13 millimeters. The pellets I primarily use are a little smaller, 8 to 10 millimeters. Not much difference. Plus,if you don’t have a slingshot, you can throw the larger pellets farther. They are easier on the shoulder for old guys like me. I played baseball for years and my shoulders protest a bit. So, my long winded answer is the larger pellets are fine for 10 inch stocked trout. ~ TN
Are the larger pellets (up to half an inch) too big for the typical 10 inch stocked trout? Thanks for the vids.
Let us know how those work. I use a high protein variety used for salmon farming.
I drain the corn and put it in plastic sandwich bag or flat and wide sandwich shaped snap to container. I prefer the container because it doesn’t flap in the wind and I can easily grab kernels.
Certainly works, wherever stocked catchable trout are. But you must see if it is legal in the specific water you are fishing.
Hi Michael, I’ve not tested cutting nuggets in half. The main reason I use 6 to 8 mm pellets is because those weigh enough for me to throw them. My shoulder is already jacked-up from playing baseball through high school!
I try to use a sling-shot, but I get impatient. If using corn, use a brand name canned whole kernel corn. My tests show canned corn sinks and Frozen corn floats more. You want it to sink because if it floats, a windy day makes it go away!
Also, corn is visible, makes sound when it hits the surface (dinner bell for trout), color attracts stocked trout. Go make memories with loved ones. Share this tip with others. There’s plenty of stocked trout for everyone!
Trout Ninja. I see you using the trout nuggets for chumming. Do you see any difference in results if your break those nuggets in half or quarters? I’m just looking for low cost options. I’ll try corn too.
Just an fyi i got 14oz. Bag of trout pellets from ebay for $5.81 Search for Purina Mills Aquamax Grower 500 Trout/Fish Food Pellets
And do you think it will work good in PA?
For the sweet canned corn, does the corn have to be boiled (cooked), or do you just use it right out of the can?
Many things work as chum. One of my favorites, where legal, is using whole sweet canned corn. Buy a brand name. The cheap generic stuff doesn’t
always sink. You do not want it to float. ~ TN ~
The trout pellets I buy are super nutrient high protein especially designed for Trout farming. They only come in 50LB sacks. Costs a lot of money to ship.
If this is something you’d really like, email me and I’ll track down the contact info. ~ TN ~
what else can you chum for trout?
Where can you get trout pellets?
I wish that it was legal In my state
For bulk trout pellets, try Googling Trout Farm Food for maufacturers. Let us know what you find. ~ TN ~
hi again i used the ones and nothing i pay the money i got money i just want to catch more fish i tired it this morning and last knight nothing so u give me the info so i could by some pellets thanks for responding
Clayton, Thanks for your comment. The pellets I use are the same pellets used on the farms where trout are raised. Unfortunately, I could only get a 40 pound sack and then ship it across country. Very expensive, but worth it to me. And that was almost $100. I looked up the pellets you mention and I’ve not used those before. My main concern with those is the size. I don’t think you can throw out the dry pellets by hand, or even with a sling shot, unless they are slightly wet. It’s worth a test, because you never know what may happen! If I find a source where you can get the right pellets by the pound, I’ll send out an email or put a link on the sight. Let me know what you end up doing! ~ TN ~
hi i saw your video with 60 trout fishing system i was wonder were can i get those pellets i live in tucson az and fish every weekend and just want to catch some more fish will these pellets work Dynamite Baits Swim Stim Koi Pellets (Betaine Green) – 900grm please let me know im dying to catch more fish
John, Thanks for your email. Pellets came from a manufacturer of pellets for trout and salmon farmers. Unfortunately,
I had to buy a 40 lb sack. Cost a fortune to ship it. You might want to try sinking Koi pellets.
Try a local aquarium shop or petsmart. Don’t get floating because…they’ll float away!! Now Go Catch Some Trout!

where did u get the pelets from???? i want some . tell me
Koi pellets will work as long as they sink and are large enough to throw or launch (from a chumming sling-shot).
Try it and report back soon! Thanks for coming by ~ Trout Ninja ~
can you use koi pellets?
I use sinking pellets because I can cast to the same spot where I chummed and I can continue chumming where I cast.
Come back soon! ~ Trout Ninja ~
do the pellets float or sink?
Hi Nam, Fishing videos. If you have a YouTube account, put them there for now. Otherwise, email me and I’ll give you other uploading directions. Thanks, ~ TN ~
Light chumming the water in California is not forbidden, but not overlooked by the Dept. of Fish and Game (DFG) either. As long as you don’t dump 1/2 lbs of foods every 30 minutes, you’re fine. I’m so glad I’m moving to an area where the lake get stocked by DFG on a regular basis! Emeric, I’ll be one you, the nutty scientists and fish whisperers, as I fish with my family hopefully every weekends. Time to drive those fishes nuts! By the way, how do you want us to send you the videos?
Ninja Chef, Wait for the sequel. Because you can also add to the pellets (or canned corn) a very special “appetite stimulant”. Can it get any better? YES ~ Trout Ninja ~
Thom, I haven’t tested this “chum without chum” technique yet, but go ahead and give it a shot. Buy some bright yellow aquarium gravel and toss it out.
5 pieces every 5 minutes. At least the sound and color might attract the trout to your spot. If the Dept of Fish and Game shows up, tell them you are “skipping rocks”. Are there laws against rock skipping? Tell us how it works out. ~ Trout Ninja ~
Brian, That chumming video I shot in May/June. Right now, that lake-behind-my-house is frozen over. You’ll see some video of that soon.
If you chum with marshmallows, they’ll float away! ~ Trout Ninja ~
Ohh Trout Ninja Mastah….
Trout Ninja Grasshoppah…dropping by to tell you that i just checked out your video. Awesome! I love the chum idea, never dawned on me to get ahold of some of those pellets and the sling shot addition? again awesome! It makes me wonder about something… When I was younger used to fish alot for trout with mini marshmellows just floating, with no sinkers. I got quite a few trout surfacing for those little white bad boys …but getting them out into deeper water was always really tough. now I have another option… a sling shot! brilliant simply brilliant.
Love the written commentary to the videos. All us ninjas talk to fish. imagine if we were all there on that body of water fishing and talking to trout. the lake would be emptied really fast!
Looks like you have good weather there in TN or wherever you are. 10+ inches of ice up here under 1 foot of snow. and temp in the teens
Brian
It’s not ok to chum fresh water in California. However, it is an effective technique that is practiced all over. Even in California…shhhhhh. I won’t tell if you don’t.
Great video! I had been hoping to learn your chumming secrets eventually, I never would have thought to use that. My current setup is some white bread a can of corn and a wrist rocket (slingshot) but that only has mild luck. Now that I know how you do it the trout around here don’t stand a chance!
Thanks for the new vid!
